Mr. J. Oloo
Lecturer in Physics
Message from the Chairman
Greeting and friendly welcome to the department of Biological and Applied sciences. This is an active department within the Faculty of Science at Kibabii University College. We are at the forefront toward the realization of our vision- To be a global and dynamic University of excellence in Science, Technology and Innovation. Currently, the department has the following sections: Physics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences and Agriculture. The department works jointly with the department of Mathematics, as well as the department of Science Education, under the faculty of Education, in the training of innovative science teachers taking courses in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Agriculture. The department has ten postgraduate students enrolled to pursue Masters of Science in Physics. We prospect enrolling students to pursue Masters of Science in Chemistry in the academic year 2014/2015. We expect expansion in students’ population in this department given the fact that we are starting new programmes in 2014/2015 academic year. The department is forming several collborations with institutions with similar visions and interests for the benefit of students and to be abreast with the dynamism of knowledge in other regions and sectors. So far the department is about to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between it and Sangalo Institute of Science and Technology. The Mbakalo ward dam project is at the initial stages of writing the M.O.U that will enable the department engage in aquaculture.

Teaching and Learning Resources
The faculty has made great strides to acquire scientific literature in terms of books and e-learning materials as well as having in place a physics laboratory. Most of our students have personal laptops and can access e-books and other on-line academic information. Our approach to teaching and learning is student-centered and there is adequate accessibility to lecturers, chairmen of departments and dean by the students. It is a classic case of student-mentor relationship. The department has further identified several spacious strategically placed rooms devoid of interference to be upgraded to science laboratories for chemistry, physics, biology and agriculture. The Physics laboratory is in use while the other rooms are being upgraded to meet the university standard laboratory.
a. Pre-University Programmes
