The operations of the Academic Affairs Department started in 2012 with the registration of 333 first batch of undergraduate students on March 12th, 2012. The comprised of 289 government sponsored Students and 44 Privately Sponsored Students (PSSP) Students, who were admitted by Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) but transferred to Kibabii University College (KIBUCO). The students were admitted for the following 6 undergraduate programmes:
- Bachelor of Education
- Bachelor of Social Work
- Bachelor of Business Management
- Bachelor of Information Technology
- Bachelor of Computer Science
- Bachelor of Science in Mathematics
The students were registered for programmes in the initial two (2) Faculties namely Faculty of Science (FS) and Faculty of Education and Social Sciences (FESS).The Academic Affairs Department was official established and launched by the KIBUCO University College Council and MMUST Senate on 1st March 2014.
The Department initially started with one member of staff seconded by MMUST in 2012 but has since grown in the number of personnel to a current in-post staff establishment of fourteen (14) staff in the following three sections:
- Admissions and Students Registry
- Programmes and Teaching Facilities
The number of student population has increased from the initial 333 in 2012 to a current student population of over 5,200 students in October 2015. The number of Commission for University Education (CUE) approved academic programmes have also grown from the initial six (6) programmes in 2012 to the current forty seven (47) programmes spread across certificate, Diploma, Undergraduate and Graduate programmes.
