The Department of Languages, Literature, Journalism and Mass Communication at Kibabii University is a budding but dynamic department which was established in July 2014 under the Faculty of Education and Social Science. The initiation of the department was informed by the ever increasing number of both undergraduate and graduate students as well as need to improve on the delivery of services. It is worth noting that since the time the University had become operational, all programmes in languages and other related disciplines had operated under the broader Department of Social Sciences.
As a new but dynamic brain-child of the Faculty of Education and Social Sciences, the Department of Languages, Literature, Journalism and Mass Communication offers the following programmes: Bachelor of Education in English and Literature, Bachelor of Education in French, Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication, and Master of Arts in Comparative Literature.
The Bachelor of Education (Arts) accords students an opportunity to train as competent teachers of English and French languages as well as literature. This department will ensure that graduates from Kibabii University become competent teachers.
The Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication has four specializations namely, Development Communication, Public Relations, Print Journalism and Broadcast Journalism. Plans are underway to launch a Master of Arts in Communication Studies and Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism and Mass Media. The latter program gives graduate students an opportunity to study literature from a comparative point of view.
